Tablescape Thursday Thrift Store/Grocery Store Dishes

Last week I ran across a blog (of course now I can't remember the name!) in which I saw the sweetest dishes.  They were made by Haviland and had been a grocery store promotion sometime in the 1980's. My aunt and grandmother bought me some dishes from a grocery store years ago. These were different and I wished mine had been like these! Anyway, on Monday, Labor Day I went to the PTO thrift store, they were having half off everything in the store. Well,.....you won't believe what I found.......
The same dishes for $5.00. I couldn't believe it! There are four dinner plates, four salad plates, four dessert plates, four soup bowls, four fruit bowls, four teacups and saucers, a vegetable bowl and a serving platter. I think it works out to about .17 cents a piece!

I love the shape of the teacup. One cup has a small chip on the rim but all the other pieces are in perfect condition.

Some of  my smaller ironstone pitchers and a final view of the table. Still missing some napkins! Maybe a brighter tablecloth. I like the white lace but it disappears with the white and blue dishes. I couldn't wait to share my bargain! I will be joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Thanks for stopping by!

I love the shape of the cup, and ruffled edge, so pretty!

  12. What a deal! I love the Haviland Blue Garland and I've picked up several place settings too. I don't have those wonderful teacups though -- and I sure didn't get your great deal! You've set a lovely table with them. Thanks for sharing -- now I'll have to be on the lookout for those cups.

  14. Johann Haviland manufactured his Blue Garland china in Germany beginning in 1937. An exact match was reproduced in 1991, as a grocery stor promotional. i've read that it has become just as popular as the original. The difference will be in the mark on the back. I'm so excited that you found them. They are often, also available on eBay if you want to add to your collection. Thank you for sharing your charming design...so pretty! Cherry Kay
