Books and a New Lampshade

I have seen many posts in blogland lately about books. It appears the latest trend it to rip the covers and the spines off (ouch!), glue the pages shut and bundle several together with twine. I rather like the look but really don't want to rip up my books! I decided to place some of mine on the side table with the tripod lamp. I love this lamp except for one thing; the legs are adjustable and the screws loosen. So when you least expect it (like in the middle of the night!)the lamp crashes to the floor. I never really liked the shade it came with and couldn't find anything I liked until, I saw this vintage cutie at PTO. It might be a little short for the lamp but I like it. You can't really tell from the picture but the shade is rectangular with the sides kinda angled. I knew I could have paid attention in geometry class! It was only $3.50 so I snatched it up. The fabric is a blend between cotton and burlap. It has a small area that needed to be glued. No problem. The books are all thrift store finds. The table belonged to my great grandma and then my grandma. She had her TV on it.
Here you can see the carving on the leg and some on the apron. Also you can see the mirror I took off the wall and leaned against the wall. I really like the look of items leaning against the wall. Soon I will have everything on the floor and nothing on the wall!

I will be joining Marty at a Stroll Thru Life for Tabletop Tuesday. Click on the link to join in the fun. Thanks for stopping by. Lisa

  1. This is beautiful.

I did do the removal of covers but did not glue the pages. This was done on some very old paperbacks, that were basically falling apart, found in our basement storage. They are still readable. Just not as pretty.

  2. I'm not sure I could rip books apart either. Just seems to go against all that is right, but it seems it's all the rave now. I like what you did better I think and your tripod lamp is really unique ~ even the falling down part. That could wake you up with a start at night :)

  4. Love your lamp and that placement of the mirror probably directs light in other directions. I haven't done the books yet because I have so few flat surfaces. I like covers too. Lovely photos.

  6. I love that lamp! And I have to admit that tearing books just goes against the grain for me...after years of teaching school and begging the kids to take care of theirs! lol Happy week!...hugs...Debbie

  7. A wonderful vignette. I love the lamp and the books are fine the way they are.
A suggestion...you might want to lose the encrypted words. Most people don't like that when they leave comments. Have a wonderful day! Linda
